I just returned from a wonderful weekend in Chicago
celebrating my Aunt Sentoria’s 80th birthday.
Eighty years young. That’s Auntie.
Many of her church member friends came out from Compassion
Baptist Church and did a lively and entertaining “mini-roast” of a remarkable
woman. Auntie loves the Lord, teaches Sunday school, and is supposed to be retired
from teaching school but still works as a substitute on a regular basis in the
Chicago public school system.
The day started with rousing bowling party at Doltan Lanes,
and ended with a delicious meal that included gumbo and grilled blackened
chicken at Dixie Kitchen. The food, the fellowship, family and friends made for
a super-fantastic day in celebration of a woman who not only grows tall and
leafy collard greens in her backyard, but can cook those babies up to
perfection. Bring on the cornbread!!!
This is to you, Auntie. Love you. What a blessed milestone
in your life to reach. You are such a humble and compassionate person with so
much joy to share with others. I enjoyed
celebrating your birthday with you.
Your nephew, Walter
