Each Sunday service in October promises to be power-packed experience. You don’t want to miss the life changing glory of God at St. Louis’ Church of Christ the Divine.

As a special hard-hitting and soul-saving outreach, on October 18th and 25th we will present our exciting and thought-provoking illustrated sermon, “The Selling of the Soul, Prodigal Son.” Ministered in conjunction with Divine Key Ministries Drama Team, this you-don’t-want-to-miss sermon will feature the preaching of the Word of God as well as acting, singing, stage props, rap with live sound tracks and more.

The storyline for “The Selling of the Soul: Prodigal Son” has to do with the dangers of some secular music, mainly gangster rap. Our message to the youth is that this music - through the technical pounding of the rhythm drum beat and constant chanting of evil lyrics though the medium of the artist - conveys a subliminal message that is transmitted from the dark spirit world. This is a more powerful medium when artists are under the influence of drugs that gives them unhindered ability to perform at optimum evil levels.

Along with the format of this ungodly music, the use of video showing flashy automobiles with sparkling 24-inch rims which adds an extra desire for this fast-paced lifestyle. In an environment of constant poverty, the desire for instant fame, money, women and sex is intensified, which usually renders the souls of our helpless youth spiritually deficient. The result is the young generation being drawn into the clutches of evil and possible eternal damnation.

It almost seems that it is an unfair fight for the righteous, trying to compete with all of the glittering glamour of the “sin city of evil” that doesn’t sleep.

Young boys, who are just entering biological maturity, welcome the beautifully built young girls dancing provocatively. This does not help these young men at all, but only adds to the lust for more worldliness.

Gang violence has become a worldwide problem and the “demonically charged music” only breeds more wicked desires. The youth that doesn’t know how to cope with stress, depression, peer pressure and fear are sitting ducks for the bandwagon of the lost. What will happen to our next generation?

“The Selling of the Soul: Prodigal Son” is about two brothers that are raised in church and their parents were the leaders of the congregation. After the death of the mother who was the pastor, the two brothers are left to carry on the church. The eldest brother leaves home to pursue a career in rap while, the younger son stays to keep the church going.

With some secular music and “watered down” gangster rap, we hope to reach the youth and convey our message without forcing too much traditionalism on our young audience. The Bible states in Matthews 9:37: “Truly, the harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers to go into the world to bring in the harvest.”

This is what Harvest Time 2009 is all about, an attempt to rescue the Buster generation as well as Generation X. We have gone pretty close to the line with this illustrated sermon; some may even criticize us for some of the secular musical sound bites that will be played. But if it will win a soul, let the criticism rip!

“The Selling of the Soul: Prodigal Son” is a harvest message seeking to win any one that may heed the message. This is an opened invitation for anyone that wishes to attend this illustrated sermon.
