Injury leads to support group
NOTE: A young man I know, Brandon Morris, had a devastating injury almost 13 years ago that changed his life forever. From that, Brandon was inspired to for Brother's Keeper Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) support group.
Below is an except from Brandon about his life. You can read his powerful story in full and learn more about his organization at www.brotherskeepersci.org.
In Brandon's words
"Without a shadow of a doubt, if I could change my situation, I would. However, I feel like what happened in October 26, 1996 either helped keep me out of prison, or enter an early grave, or both!
"As a result, I am a better person at the present despite living with a disability. I now have focus on my life and the will to accomplish what I set out to do.
"This is why I decided to form the Brother's Keeper S.C.I. support group. Our vision is to help other young men and women cope with their spinal cord injury and overcome the mindset of thinking their life is over because that is simply not true. My hope is that Brother's Keeper s.c.i will touch the future generations about the pitfalls of violence and a criminal lifestyle and the negative results that can and do come with this path.
"Personally, turning a negative into a positive and helping others is what it's all about."
